Did you bring some extra hydraulic fluid? You know... just in case the heavy was dry?
...I’ll see myself out.

My project car/daily driver/only car, doubles up as a really convenient storage unit.
Am I doing this right?

The HEMIWagon is my DD/Project/toy.
The SL600 Sport is the other toy. Both get driven often and hard.

opposite, was 500 bucks, drove 15 years without major issue, needs occasional fixing due to age, but is good to go. just about everything is factory and working, so we don’t take that one apart. once you start you have to do everything. Nice yota, mine’s an 85 2wd pickup with one option: red. that one is my baby.

about to exhume the previous driver from its mild vacation, and kick out all the critters that have taken up residence. it was the daily 60 mile round trip vehicle for 7 years. the 81 has been holding down dailies for about 3 now? been cruising the 71 in close proximity to the house, to get a feel for whether it is going to try and put me to walking. so far no, running it out of a jug, but runs warm. need to reassemble the fanshroud. only left me walking three times in 7 years.

Definitely… Mine’s 84 2H diesel, got it for 2000AU$ 9 months and 25.000km ago, never had any (major) issue and literally fell in love with the old girl. There’s just something about them…

that’s my kind of truck, nothing too shiny for me, wouldn’t wanna look like a jerk. restoring/customizing my pickup, but gonna have to leave a couple dents to keep it’s roadsalt of the earth credibility

you dont have to LEAVE the dents. after you hammer them out, they have a way of rusting where the high and low spots used to be, kinda a surface rust patina thing. get to have the straight body and dent cred. what kind of cool old truck do you have?

85 toyota with no options, bought new by grandpa, he never put a scratch on it (though it was rusting on the boatride over from japan) all dents have a story attached to a family member, uncle cam forgot it was a standard, front bump, cousin jen spilled cup-a-soup in the winter cracked dash, heated has a whiff of menthol, uncle bob. box rusted completely in half so is now a toyododgefordpontiac.
Hobbes respects differences of oppopinion on truck brands. Peace love and rust for everyone.

Made in Japan, rusted in the vast expanses of western Canada. It says Hi to it’s beige cousin. And Canada says Hi to it’s Suntanned cousins. The Canada Truck is the same as The JDM version with LHD the only difference, very similar to Aussie Hilux, the usdm version was on it’s way to becoming the Tacoma after the 79-83 generation. My truck is not currently red, but will be again because changing the colour of a red truck is just wrong. BTW: you spell colour with a “u” down under?

Thats right, now i remember the truck. yeah, those trucks arent too pretty.....but they are honest. they will try to do just about anything that you ask them to, or die trying to do it. more of old friends than trucks.....
good old hobbes. i remember one of the strips that got TO me..... made me sit and think.........calvin and hobbes are setting there, and ........hey i found it..
got me to think realistically about the junk i wanted to build, quit aiming for that unobtanium show car stuff, and make do with what i got...... so much happier these days..... good ol hobbes

My thoughts exactly, went to the big annual car show, saw at least 4 cars I’d worked on, saw glorious iron never to go on the street again. Strengthened My roadsalt of the earth resolve, think I might start a car club called the “peasants” as a fk-you the mullets with money crowd.

its a nice feeling to know that you have used something up, gotten all the good out of it that can be had, not left anything on the table...... rather than have a shiny that looks spectacular, that must SIT and collect “value”.... i’ll keep the salt alive and rusting here..... and having fun with the junk is the best nose thumbing you can give them

Haha, I’m actually not aussie, more of a temporary expat… (The cruiser’s a true blue, thou) Always loved hiluxes/pickups, my dad had a 89 Hilux extra cab when I was a kid, only thing I remember about the truck is how bad the rust was!
+1 for the red, a nice glossy red always works sooo well, especially with the old Toyota graphics
How bad’s the rust on yours? Rockers and door seem pretty “crunchy”

i’ve got new fenders, spare doors and tailgate, might do wheels and tires today, the box rusted in HALF so it’s a homemade solution, rockers and cab corners need some love.
